Workshops

A key part of our mission is to provide education about building sustainability. We have especially strong capabilities and experience to support this mission, for our staff have developed and delivered both onsite and online training. We've designed and delivered workshops attended by over 4,500 participants from the building industry - architects, engineers, building-owners, suppliers and policy-makers.

Workshops on Energy Codes and Standards.

ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2001 Workshops: Since 2001 we have developed and refined the course content for a two-day workshop on how to comply with and to exceed the latest version of this important energy efficiency standard. We have prepared material for the 2001, 2004, and 2007 versions of 90.1.

Complying with Std 90.1: We have presented a number of these workshops including:

  • Two 2-day workshops in 2002 in Atlantic City and Orlando.
  • Three 2-day workshops in Texas in 2003 in Houston, Dallas, and Austin.
  • Two 2-day workshops in Chicago in 2005.
  • Two 2-day workshops in Salt Lake City Utah in 2005 and 2006.
  • A 2-day workshop in New York City in 2007.
  • A 1-day workshop at the ASHRAE winter meeting in New York City in January 2008.
  • A 1-day workshop at EcoBuild in Annaheim CA in May 2008 (planned).
  • A 1-day workshop at the ASHRAE summer meeting in Salt Lake City in June 2008 (planned).

Exceeding Std 90.1: More recently we have developed and presented several workshops on using Std 90.1 Appendix G as the basis for excceding Std. 90.1, including:

  • A 1-day workshop at GreenBuild 2005 in Atlanta.
  • A 1-day workshop at the ASHRAE winter meeting in New York City in January 2008.
  • A 3-hour online webinar in May 2008 (planned).

Vietnam Commercial Building Energy Code Public Workshop: We presented at two 1-day public workshops in Hanoi and HCMC on the new Vietnamese Energy Efficiency Building Code. For SIDA, the World Bank and the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry (2003).

Egypt Energy Code A/E Workshops: We prepared content for a two-day workshop for architects and engineers. For UNDP and the Egyptian Housing and Building Research Center (2004).

Egypt Residential Energy Code Public Workshop: TDG presented at the 1-day public workshop in Cairo on the new Egyptian Residential Energy Efficiency Code. For UNDP and the Egyptian Housing and Building Research Center (2003).

Jamaica Energy Code Workshops: Organized workshops, prepared content, and trained Jamaican trainers during for three two-day workshops for architects and engineers, and one two-day workshop with hands-on computer use. For the Jamaica Bureau of Standards and the World Bank (1992 and 1997).

Workshops on Building Quality and Commissioning

Workshops - Commissioning of the Building Exterior Enclosure: Made eight workshop presentations, 2006-2008:

  • Three presentations at National Conferences on Building Commissioning (NCBC).
  • Five presentations at Univ. of Wisconsin Commissioning Workshops in Madison, WI and in CA.

Workshops - Commissioning of the Daylighting Systems: Made four workshop presentations, 2006-2008:

  • Two presentations at National Conferences on Building Commissioning (NCBC).
  • One presentation at a Univ. of Wisconsin Commissioning Workshops in Madison, WI.
  • Presentations at a 1-day workshop at PGE’s Pacific Energy Center.

Workshops on Building Performance and Customer Satisfaction - US General Services Administration (GSA)

Participated with several building industry experts to prepare and present a one-day workshop that were presented to managers and staff of all 11 GSA regions. The intent of these workshops was to provide information on how to improve the quality and performance of GSA buildings in order to improve customer satisfaction. Prepared and presented three topics:

  • Integrated building design and operations,
  • Integrated design of building interiors,
  • Quality Assurance (Commissioning).

A final workshop was presented in Washington DC to a large audience.
